( The door's unlocked when he sticks his key in. His muscles tense, ready for action out of reflex as he pushes open the door just before the point where the hinge creaks and listens. All he hears are kitchen noises, though, and Spencer's knife tapping a steady beat out on the cutting board. )

Notes: Again supposed to be for thingama_bob, even though on further reflection it's more about Brian than Bob. Whoops. I think this was prompted by mourning_night but now I can't find the post. Am I right?

( Brian's got an unlit cigar between his teeth. He grins around it when Bob opens the door. He's got his feet up on the desk, the heels of his shiny shoes making dents in the papers piled across his blotter. His shirt and vest are unbuttoned past the point of decency. He almost looks like any other businessman unwinding after a long day, except for the tattoos revealed under cotton and the way his grin turns predatory when he sees who Bob is ushering into the dimly lit office. )

Title: Safety Net

Note: For au_bingo cyberpunk and hc_bingo social phobia. wordscomekinda really wanted cyberpunk things.

( The first thing Bob did when he woke up was turn up the music. He fell asleep with a random site pulled up so he had no idea what it was he was hearing and he didn't try to find out. Instead he let the heavy beats and over-processed synth fade into the background as a tempo for his fingers to follow, nothing more. When his system was ready he unwound his auxiliary cable and plugged it into his mainframe. He laid his right arm on the desktop, rolled up his ratty sleeve so he could inspect his adapter. The fissures in the black casing showed pink, angry flesh beneath. The rest of his forearm looked even more starkly vulnerable because of it, soft, pliant flesh gone even more pale than normal with the blood supply diverted to feed extra energy to the unit. It was a power drain, not just on his body but on his computer system as well. It would take major surgery to fix, now. )

Note: For au_bingo, ancient civilization. There is absolutely nothing about this that is historically accurate, though. I picked it at random and wrote it on my breaks at work the other day.
